- The complete model and any dock, charger or display involved in the fault.
- What still works and when the problem began.
- Whether one user, one device or several users are affected.
- Where required files are stored and whether a backup has been tested.
- Whether the computer uses BitLocker, a work account or organisation management.
- Any deadline, previous repair attempt or recent update.
Separate a device fault from a shared service fault
If several users lose the same network, cloud service or printer at once, bringing one laptop for repair may not address the cause. Check the scope first. A fault limited to one computer can then be tested against working equipment and accounts.
Protect access to business data
Provide only the access needed for the agreed work. Encryption recovery keys, administrator accounts and business data handling should be discussed at reception. If a drive is unstable, file access takes priority over a Windows reinstall or repeated repair scans.
Repair, replacement and transfer are compared together
A repair can be sensible when one component or the Windows installation is responsible and the machine still supports the required work. When several faults, unavailable parts or an unsupported platform are involved, moving the files and setup to another computer may reduce risk and downtime.
